Melton Matters Wombles raise £14,000 for Their Local Air Ambulance Service

Until  21st May 25 the Melton Matters Wombles have donated the The Local Air Ambulance Service (covering Leicestershire, Rutland, Warwickshire , Northamptonshire and Derbyshire) £14,056.34.

Maz shared how the volunteer and fundraising effort first began:

“How it started – we were saving cans from picks for a local charity that were building helipads.  As there were no helipads near us, we switched to supporting the East Midlands Air Ambulance directly.  Then it escalated to putting collection bins outside supermarkets and pubs.  Now Kim and a team of volunteers collect the cans and take them to Woodland View farm where Andrew and Janet Spicer, massive supporters of the AA and our Womble group, let us store them.  They are then crushed, bagged and Andrew takes them to Allsop’s scrap metal dealer on the A46 in a cattle truck.”

“All monies raised are transferred to the Air Ambulance.  We’ve been collecting for them since July 21.  To recognise the group the AA invited us to their airfield and we had the most amazing day, with the helicopter being called out while we were there. ”

More recently a team from a group called Support and Connections have gotten involved and are a massive help to us and have won a coveted award for the help they give us.  https://www.meltontimes.co.uk/community/coveted-voluntary-award-for-melton-fundraisers-5195034  We’re thrilled that they have received this recognition as we really couldn’t do it without their help.
