As we are a small and busy team, it’s not always possible for us to respond as quickly as we would like. We will always do our best to respond to your enquiries in a timely manner.
So, to save you time, here are answers to our FAQs.
What does The Wombles Community Charity do?
Our mission is simple: To educate, inspire and support all generations to engage in local, community-led environmental action to create a national movement. We believe no action is too small to make the world a better place
Can we book a Womble for an appearance at one of our events?
If you would like to book a Wombles appearance, please reach out to us directly and we will do our best to accommodate. If we are unable to assist, you can reach out to our partner, Rainbow Productions. To discuss bookings, please contact Simon Foulkes at simon@rainbowproductions.co.uk
Where can I buy Wombles merchandise?
We are planning to launch an environmentally-friendly range of products and merchandise in 2025 that will be sold through our website and retail partners. As an official Wombles group, you will get various discounts on our products.
When are Wombles coming back to our screens?
We loved our TV appearances in the 1970s. We have been working to develop the right strategy for our come-back. We plan to make entertaining TV with humour but at the same time teach a new generation of children and families about the importance of looking after our environment. You will be able to see me in all of my new CGI-glory in the near future!
What types of environmental campaigns will you be getting involved with?
The Wombles are all about promoting and celebrating positive, local action. We want to encourage everyone to do more for our local environment, from recycling to collecting litter, and reusing/refurbishing old items rather than sending them to landfill. We will be supporting a range of organisations and individuals who are making a difference, including Wastebuster and The United Nations on #WaterWeek24.
How does our litter group become an "Official Wombles Group"?
In order to become an Official Wombles Group, your group leader/admin needs to register your group with us via our portal. Once you have registered your interest, we will review your application. As part of your application process, you will be asked to sign a simple IP license that allows you to use the Wombles name and certain branding assets for your group. Once this license has been signed, you will gain access to our resources portal.
Can we use “Wombles” in the name of our Group?
We are delighted for you to use “Wombles” in your name, provided it is the same name that was approved for your group in the License Agreement you signed.
However if you set up a registered entity (such as a company or charity) through which your group undertakes its activities, the word “Wombles” cannot form any part of the registered name of that entity. You will need to register with a separate name (without the word ‘Wombles’), although you can continue to use the Wombles group name in public, for example in social media. Please refer to our Group Name Guidelines for more information.
If you do use the word “Wombles” in your group name, you also need to include the location of your group (place name or area) in your group name (eg “The Wombles of Suffolk” or “Suffolk Wombles”). We can’t accept generic names such as “Wandering Wombles” for intellectual property protection reasons.
Can we announce becoming an official Wombles group?
Absolutely! We would love for you to share the news about you becoming an Official Wombles Group. Don’t forget to tag us in your posts!
Where can I buy littler picking equipment from?
We partner with Helping Hand, who supply all of our branded litter equipment. You can contact them on 01531 635678 or head to their website to purchase litter picking equipment. If your group is registered with us as an “Official Wombles Group” keep an eye out for our exclusive discount code for Helping Hand.
Can we create and use our own Wombles images?
It’s important you use only the approved logos and assets we provide to you as part of our agreement.
Can we create our own branded clothing and equipment?
Yes, you can create branded clothing and equipment such as T-shirts and hi-viz vests, but we ask that all apparel and equipment is as sustainable as possible – for example, using recycled materials or cotton grown using sustainable farming methods.
You can sell or make available this branded clothing and equipment to members of your group, but if you are selling online this must be behind a paywall or through a private link so that the site is not publicly visible. Please refer to our Merchandise Guidelines for more information.
Can we raise money through sponsorship and donations?
There is no restriction on you receiving sponsorship and donations to support your group and its activities. But The Wombles can only be associated with businesses with whom we have signed an official licensing agreement. This means that any commercial company or organisation with which you are associated cannot use the Wombles name or imagery without written permission from Wombles Operations Ltd. Please refer to your License Agreement, and to our Sponsorship Guidelines for more information. Please contact us if you have any questions.
How do we ensure we are carrying out of activities safely?
It’s really important that any activities your group carries out such as litter picking are undertaken safely and responsibly, including the choice of safe locations to pick litter, use of appropriate equipment, the health and safety of participants and the responsible disposal of litter. You should always comply with the best practice guidelines issued by Keep Britain Tidy in its Beginner’s Guide to Litter Picking. For more information about keeping safe please refer to our Safety Guidelines.
If you require a risk assessment please use Keep Britain Tidy’s Risk Assessment Template
How is The Wombles Community Charity funded?
We work with partners, supporters and fundraisers to independently fund our charity. If you would like to support our work you can also donate via our donation link.
Where does the money go?
The money raised allows us to support our Litter Groups and Education Programme.
Can you provide us with Public Liability insurance?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide public liability insurance. If you would like support in finding an insurance broker, we would be glad to assist. We have also partnered with Keep Britain Tidy to signpost our groups to their health & safety resources.
Can you supply us with competition prizes?
If you require competition prizes please contact our team, we would be happy to discuss how we can support you with this!
Can you design a poster for our event?
We are happy for you to use the official branded elements we have provided (such as the images of the Wombles characters) to create your own posters. We also have templates available which we can add information to.
Can we talk to the local news about our work?
We love to see all the work you are doing in your local community, and press is a powerful tool to spread the news of your invaluable environmental action. All we ask is that any press coverage reflects our positive ethos and the hard work of our official Wombles groups and local community initiatives, and does not bring the Wombles brand or name into disrepute.
Where can I find information on recycling?
Head over to Recycle Now to get more information on how to recycle your household items.
How can I find my local council?
We are working hard on developing a database of local council contacts to make finding your local council easier, but in the meantime please head to the government website here to search by postcode.
If your query isn’t covered under our FAQs, please fill out the contact form below and we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
